WoW facebook

i think facebook sucks – but only because they banned me without the courtesy of letting me say goodbye to peeps (plus i had like 1000 hearts). having a fan page blows because i am not a celebrity, i don’t want to be a celebrity, and you can’t do things like hearts. anyway . . . (not that ener ever holds a grudge – well, not for more than a few years anyway!) =p

no wonder Monkey Linden, err, M Linden wanted to get SL hooked into FB, World of Warcraft is getting hooked in! man, if you thought mafia wars was huge, just wait!

but it will be interesting and, in my opinion, will attract a slightly different gamer. like second life, world of warcraft people like their screen names and anonymity to probably a similar extent. so i would think (oh oh, smoke coming out of my ears) that there will be an influx of people curious about WoW that normally would not try it out (i have never tried it)

since i don’t know how WoW culture is, i wonder if a sudden influx of a few 10s of 1000s will have on the WoW world?

if you do second life/opensim, facebook, and world of warcraft, share your thoughts here or on twitter

  1. i have expressed to the powers that be of SL that i think it would be neato for my avatar to be able to teleport to WoW. i’m told that kind of thing won’t happen for at least another two years.

and i bet it’s more than 2 years on WoW/SL – how would that work anyway? you would be able to make an avatar isl and use it in WoW? i totally agree it would be k3wl and i already have my assortment of katanas, broad swords, and guns ready for action! =D

  4. Universal/Global avatars is an idea whose time has (nearly?) come. Google tried an experiment of sorts (“Lively”) with it in 2008 (and killed it the same year). The only “global” avatar I have now is my lil Gravatar ( icon, which I of course learned about from Ener.

Would I be happy with only one avatar? Yes. My alts are quite dusty, and are only used rarely, for script testing. But what about security? I would never trust Facebook for _anything_ (their security practices suck lemons).

Though hypergridding between Open Sim worlds is still not perfect or easy, it’s a first step. Remember the days when AOL/Compuserve/Prodigy Online (with their own content) ruled the Net, before the Net itself was easy to navigate? Netscape Navigator finally fixed all that. Maybe Google or someone else will take up the torch again.

  5. interesting thought. i doubt any standard 3D avatar could come into play any time soon. WoW has predefined ones and IMVU is diff from sl and Habbo is totakly diff. it would be very cool though. maybe some standard could be created and then interpreting engines would take those standards and convert your universal avatar into that platform? so in Habbo, i would have pink hair and be pale and that would be close enough for me (i don’t need my Habbo av looking like my sl one, nor would i want it to)
