where do VWs fit in education?

i saw this nifty infographic on Rich White’s blog (if you do education and are thinking of VWs or use them, his work is pretty amazing) and since we are doing something for educational use i was interested in pondering how we fit in (beats pondering my navel) =p

building bridges

building bridges

the graphic mentions SimCity and civics (mentioned last week here) and also touches on role-playing, social interaction, and designing and developing

while OpenSim is not itself a game, games can be created with it, as well as fitting it nicely in several educational spots in this infographic (in my most humble of opinions) =D

people like Eric N. of Open Blackboard use OpenSim (sim-on-a-stick in fact!) so that students can design and build structures like bridges, create plant cells, and to explore mars

what else can be done with VWs for ed?

the excellent infographic below is from Online Colleges and can be seen on their blog here

  3. Just a little feedback on VWs in Education. Rockcliffe University has been in Second Life for 4 years now. We are very proud to have been the host university for Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education (VWBPE) since its beginning. We have recently expanded to other VWs that allow us to use tools that SL does not give it’s users. If you would like to hear more about what we do, I would be thrilled to speak with you. Education is succeeding in VWs and we are excited about the future.

  4. thank you Tender, i would be most interested in sharing your successes (and frustrations) with VWs. especially any transitions (you may know that i moved from having had 19 sims inSL to being our own little grid)

perhaps we could do an “email” interview – i don’t want to waste your time and it would be short, but your work will inspire others and be well recieved =)

  5. “where do VWs fit in education?”… Correct question!

It’s not > where does education fit in VWs?

And it’s ultimately about the Education Grid…
