VW Best Practices in Education Conference

a free conference is being sponsored starting March 17th till the 19th by the Virginia Society for Technology in Education (VSTE) promoting “the best and brightest” from Second Life, OpenSim, World of Warcraft, and other virtual worlds (note to self – i was not invited! /me must not be as bright as previously thought!) =p

it’s free and last year they had over 2,000 peeps (clearly not all at once) and had 250 speakers! (note to subQ – *blows a raspberry*) =D

the conference is held in Second Life (ahh, that explains why no invite in my mail) and despite my smart @ss remarks, this is a very good event by passionate educators

learn more about the 53 hour (!!!) event here: and on their Ning group =)

  1. Yeah – it sounds like it’s going to be a big one this year. I’m actually slinking back into SL to volunteer at the conference. However, I recall reading something about ‘formal attire’ that would be supplied to us, I guess to be… presentable? Uh oh. I kinda shudder when I think about that. Otherwise, it’s great to see education is still pushing forward into the new frontier.

    Great pic, btw ;)

  2. nice one mimetic! volunteering is a great community service, both in-world and real world (/me was volunteer firefighter/paramedic)

i bet your uniform is a conference tee! pretty neat though and this group already had a “pre” event last week to help n00bs get the most from the conference

good luck, have fun, and share the contagious joy you have for virtual worlds – there is nothing quite like it =)

I went last year and plan to attend again this year, but I wasn’t invited either. I think anyone can just go to the website and register. That’s what I did anyway and plan to help out by volunteering – you should go!
