more of a silly post than anything else but i received this nifty little Ninja USB drive for my bday =) i placed him on top of my work PC so that my back is covered (next to a Lego Ninjago samurai) and figured he (or she) would serve as an emergency USB drive. i [...]

superstar teacher and students present SoaS at university
Ms Booth and her students are superstars in all imaginable educational ways and they use Sim-on-a-Stick in innovative ways that positively impact learning and retention. i’ve often referred to Ms Booth and shared her classroom successes with SoaS here on the blog recently, she lectured at Southern Cross University about her virtual world technology platform [...]
SoaS 0.7.5
hooray, Sim-on-a-Stick has been updated to OpenSim 0.7.5! =) the 0.7.5 release of OpenSim brings many good patches, new features, and performance enhancements (release notes) the multi-region versions are set as megaregions and follow the numbering convention that Kitely uses. building on an SoaS multi-region version should mean that one single OAR can be directly deployed to [...]
SoaS 0.7.5 downloads online
the 0.7.5 SoaS downloads are done and have been tested a few times. i need to test a little more and then post the new SoaS website . . . for those who can’t wait, here they are: one region zip | one region installer | 4 region installer | 9 region installer | 16 [...]
adding TOS to your SoaS
if you did the 0.7.5 update via Diva’s convenient Update function, you will have seen an attention box saying to read the release notes. yesterday we discussed what to edit regarding the new group functionality and it seems appropriate to complete her instructions (plus i am doing it right now for the SoaS downloads!) =) [...]
Third Grade Math projects in OpenSim
behold the power of a great and innovative teacher mixed with the creative awesomeness of kids using Sim-on-a-Stick! =) direct YouTube link
0.7.5 Update function special instructions
if you run Diva’s built-in Update function (as mentioned in yesterday’s post), you’ll see instructions to go read the release notes text file for me, the release notes run together as a single line when i view them in Notepad and it is easier to read them online here Diva has added a TOS page [...]

the latest version of Crista Lopes’ Diva D2 Distro is now available – 0.7.5 see Diva’s latest blog post about her awesome work =) if you are chomping on the bit to get OpenSim 0.7.5 into your Sim-on-a-Stick, you don’t have to wait on that slowpoke Ener to create a new set of downloads! =p [...]
student projects built with SoaS might not be theirs
this got my attention and is a total load of rubbish in my opinion . . . works created during school/work hours, with the use of school system materials, and within the scope of an employee’s position or student’s classroom work assignment(s) are the properties of the Board of Education. this is from Prince George’s [...]
does Sim-on-a-Stick collect any of your data
yes – i collect Google Analytics data on website visits to http://simonastick.com (sim-on-a-stick.com redirects to simonastick.com). i use that data to determine the number of monthly downloads and i also look at general demographics such as what countries have downloaded it. i don’t dig any deeper than that, but Google Analytics does capture the city [...]
another project or another distraction
i sure hope i’m not the only one that has a bunch of different things they want to build that end up half completed with good intentions my main OpenSim endeavor is our science build but i have other things i want to do that might be termed side projects. just things i’d like to [...]
multi-region Sim-on-a-Stick now follows Kitely’s numbering
Kitely gets the jump on offering megaregions commercially (Advanced Megaregions as of august ’12) and thus an influence on how regions are named. they use Cartesian numbering which is utilitarian and it makes sense to echo that with Sim-on-a-Stick (you can always change the names of the Sim-on-a-Stick regions by changing them in the region config file) [...]
OpenSim is also a 3D application
reposted from subQuark‘s blog & written for non-users After seeing a post on New World Notes that represented how I use OpenSim but left out the most compelling reasons as to why use OpenSim, I decided to reiterate what I’ve mentioned in the past. One of the hats I wear is corporate eLearning developer for [...]
megaregions will soon be the norm
megaregions have been a part of the Diva D2 Distro for as long as Crista Lopes has been offering it but . . . OpenSim has remained in the SL paradigm of one region equals one world equals one OAR file for one 256 metre square region. you can place regions next to each other [...]
Crystal starts building her 25 region SoaS project
Crystal, an indie author in real life, has made the move from Second Life to OpenSim with a huge project in mind. i’m paraphrasing some of her comments here: she is building “Hyde Park” and a post-apocalyptic area called “New Chi Town” which will probably have the back story of a volcanic winter scenario that [...]
