on may 24th, 2009 i made myself a commitment to publish at least one blog post a day without missing any days
that will be three years ago next week – phew!
we haven’t missed a single day and have averaged 1.333 posts per day (1459 posts in 1089 days – wow, that means we could take the next entire year off and still average just over one post per day!) *who ya calling OCD?* =p
this blog started as a free WordPress blog and the first post was regarding the only “real” machinima we ever made (Mo Peterman, subQuark Hax, and moi - complete with narration!) and that was on the 29th of january in 2008
since that time, there have been a total of 1,652 posts (25 by DreamWalker, 16 by Micheil Merlin, 3 by Sunny Whitfield, 70 by subQuark, and 1538 my yours truly)
also since that time, we’ve uploaded 13,162 pics to Flickr, have done over 7,900 tweets with 34,000 followers, and reached a peak of being in the top 1.72% of the web
those are all big numbers and they really don’t matter much, but the number that has the greatest value to me is the number of passionate people in this very small community. you are worth more than any follower count or a million tweets. i am truly grateful for you =)
some posts have been serious and handy, many were silly, and a few actually talked about my estate which was the entire purpose of this blog. i was hot and heavy into Second Life in 2008 and would soon have 19 sims. i thought i’d be in Second Life forever and absolutely loved it and spent 20-40 hours a week in-world including being a genuine Second Life Mentor (i really liked that a lot)
things change – i haven’t logged in to Second Life for over a year and i have no interest in “selling” land anymore. but some things don’t change – i still have that child-like excitement when i build things, i regularly wear my parasol as a reminder of the passion which Torley ignited within me, and i love virtual worlds even more than before (not worrying about a huge tier helps too!) =D
Second Life, and OpenSim, have changed a lot since january of 2008 but a few things have remained the same, like the following repost of an august 5th 2009 post which also applies to OpenSim and has a footnote about Creative Commons licensing that i just talked about on wednesday (see, some things never change) =)

Woah, congratz Ener!
Not only posting a new blog daily but sometimes even twice, that’s prolific. I wouldn’t know what to write most of the time, finding blogworthy themes (in my eyes) is hard enough to keep my lame-ass bloggy alive. Also when I’m on vacation I can be out for some weeks without updating my blog. My name isn’t Orca Blogga ^.^ and publishing a blog isn’t a sport, so I go at it rather relaxed.
Congratz again and keep up the good work.

well thank you all! you guys make it easy to blog and as for vacations – well, i don’t take many but i don’t always write a post everyday. some times i get a day off from DreamWalker or subQuark BUT i also sometimes write posts ahead of time and set them to auto-publish on a schedule (a standard WordPress feature)
for example, I am working on three posts right now that i’ll decide when to publish and/or i may keep one on hold for use later for either a day i can’t figure out anything to write about or a day that is filled with some other activity (like two weeks back i was out for a birthday from eight in the morning until one that night!)
and as to blog worthy – i treat this like an online diary so i don’t worry about every post needing to be some hard hitting topic and the reader can decide if it’s worth reading or not =)
and what about my huge feet? =p

Congrats Ener (and wow!), I do enjoy your blog, and the way you provide daily inspiration. I wish I had some of your talent and discipline in those respects. My sad blog attempts both present and past are filled with way too much babble-babble nonsense . Now, I’m all for Nonsense (I’m a big fan of nonsense actually, but I’m not sure it fits well on my blog attempts). (http://youtu.be/9f-AANLUwno) I may just turn mine into more of a web page. Blogging is not a talent of mine.

a good dose of daily BS helps put life in perspective and thank you Araxie =)
i used to talk a lot, i always got grades of D in conduct – so writing a bunch is a similar outlet for me =)
that’s an awesome video – i have never seen that! =D
lol, all the talk about mock turtle made me think of mock turtle soup and now i’m hungry! =p

Please do see that wonderful very old TV-mini-series (in a decent format). Yes, it dates me- but I don’t care. I think Amazon and Netflix have it. I am way clueless on wherever pop-culture is going, but if you love music and stories this will connect. If nothing else its its a treasure trove of wonderful vintage actors doing their duty, and getting their silly on.

Congratulations, Ener!
Impressive and inspiring. You have given the world a gift and I know that you are receiving just as much from your passion and your fans.
I hope you enjoy some “freedom” and a vacation.

Crown Vic ?
the things you learn on the internet!
all these years Ford made a car called a Crown Victoria ?
Widely used by police and cab drivers ?
I’ve been seeing them on TV practically every day ?
And they never mention the name.
Wonder how they chose that name, visions of closet royalists at Ford. Almost sounds like a pub name.

awesome Keith! that would be a great pub name indeed!
the Crown Vic used by the police has heavier suspension, bigger engine, and is termed Police Interceptor. unfortunately it has been discontinued
but . . . cheers to our new pub whether in-world or otherwise! :)

Congratulations from me too. No day without looking what Ener has published, more than one year I think. And many subjects made me find some new steps forward in more than one direction!

Congrats Ener, as you know I peek at your blog frequently and you do put a lot into it, which is nice to see.
But a Twist on the theme though… ;) (poutine-less)
3 years, 1,095 days x 2 hours per day average (writting & responding)= 2190 hours _or_ 58.4 Work Weeks @ 37.5 hrs a week. Imagine how much you could have built or what else you could have accomplished with that many “free hours”. So if you really think about it, your blog has cost you $21,900.00 @ a pay rate of $10 per hour.
In Poutine Terms: @ $6.00 per large poutine, that is 3650 Poutines ! Without Poutine Points.. LOL
I wonder how many people actually look / consider at the time they spend doing blogs, Facebooking their lives to the world and other similar activities.
I bet none of the responders here thought about what it costs in time & the value of that time spent.

gee, $10 an hour eh? i’m certainly glad my current employer values me at a different rate! =)
so let’s look at 3,650 poutines – CNN says a large poutine is about 750 Calories, other places say 640 and 708 – let’s make it 700 Calories
typically, breakfast is 200 Cals (yoghurt), lunch is 400-600 (sandwich), and dinner is 600-800 – total day is about 1200-1600 – let’s say 1400 total per day (maintenance). let’s swap out all meals for the poutine i earned
in three years, maintenance calories are 1,533,000 Calories (holy kaw!) but my WhiteStar poutine diet would be 2,555,000 Calories! (OMG!)
that would be 1,022,000 Calories over maintenance which would mean a pure weight gain of 292 pounds over current weight!!!!
sh!t! that would a total 3.54 Ener’s!!! dang!!!! o_O
i better just work for peanuts in that case! =D

I used the $10 dollar mark for simplified math. So recalculate what your really being paid and work it out.
Time spent doing something = $$ value of doing so. While I may have hundreds of articles on OpenSim and it’s tech, plus thousands of hours of coding, scripting and devising automated systems…. no one wants to pay for it as they want everything for nothing and they feel “entitled” so I generally have stopped all that and only do so when I feel like it & if I am having fun doing it.
I did rather enjoy helping your with SOAS but not entirely by doing it via your blog… but that was a new & different experience (not to be repeated in method though).

forget the $10, i gained too much weight! i’ll stick to doing it for free! =)
i’ve pointed to our thread for SoaS several times to educate others on the length of a path and its limitations, so that format has helped and is reaching more than just our tiny community =)
it was quite a process indeed! a very nice addition to the stick but, as you said, not one to be repeated – i have full-time work, a family, freelance work, and school going on and that was way more than i had ever planned for – but worth it =)
