one of the things i really enjoy in OpenSim is that you can make prims as big as 256 metres. i don’t think i could go back to a 10 metre limit. inSL the 10 metre limit helps prevent griefing on the mainland, but if you have a private estate, LL should allow larger prims. that simple change could help LL with Second Life imo
i am making a space station to illustrate how Earth is a closed system. it will talk about the carbon cycle as one of its activities for subQuark’s environmental science field trip workbook. i love doing this kind of work, it is a big change from running a land business. i particular like that subQuark is consciously addressing the gender gap in STEM careers with what he has written so far. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and in the US and Canada, there are many more males in those careers than females. STEM, in general, i receiving a lot of attention lately because we are losing our technology advantage a little. the example i pointed to in past posts is the California high-speed train. Governor Schwarzenegger has been to China to talk with them about building that train because we lack the engineers to do that
*steps off soap box*
back to being spaced out; being able to use 256 metre tori makes this very simple shape easy to build. so far, it has only been 30 minutes of build time and even though it is the size of a sim, all the prims are linked!

Wowsaa totally awesome!! =O True, the 10 m limit is a bitch…i wonder how they can live with it? :))

As part of the mesh rollout, LL is saying they are thinking about allowing prims to be scalable to 64m. Although they aren’t committing to that. The reason seems to be to facilitate the use of meshes but it would apply to any prim.
Another possible upcoming change is that they are also saying they may raise the maximum number of groups to 40. Although they aren’t committing to that either. Or committing to keeping it 40 even after they raise it.
In both cases, they’re worried about possible lag. Hey, stop laughing…lol
