SL private sim loss slowing down?

in the last few years, Second Life’s private sims have been decreasing

at its worst, it was losing 8 private sims per day!

that’s sounds like a lot to you and me but when you have over 20,000, then maybe it’s not a big deal (i dunno but if i had a hole in my pocket and was losing a penny every day, i’d work at stitching that up!)

for 2013, the loss averaged 4.7 private sims per day

it’s only 41 days into 2014 so any math here is early but . . . so far this year, that daily average has been 2.58 sims per day

it’s still a loss, but is that rate slowing down?

  1. that why linden should be working on second life 2 with cheaper regions and personal sandboxes. more like unity.

  2. at the rate the islands are going, the island tally will be under 19000 about the end of april lol..

Lets see what a fited mesh viewer has to offer the grid..

(I logged in to SL the other day and it just seems so empty..)

  3. As empty as any open sim grid if you log in on a empty region!
And as i said, private closed islands, that is not how Sl can be, for that we have OSgrid or any other open sim grid!
Mainland, big chunks of private regions connected to it, there is the future of Sl, some that no other grid can offer, for now!
And of course, a adult mentality, for adult users, cause no matter how any tries to hide, sex sells and sells very well!

  4. A bit of a necropost here, but the grid survey figures at the end of feb – start of march are going up and down like a yo-yo …
not sure if they are just adding new linden sims, and taking away older ones, or what is going on…
but it does seem a little like the bottomless pit has an end at around 19100 sims, but we shall have to wait and see!

  5. good point zzpearl – if SL could take advantage of this and be a populated place that you can walk from one sim to another, that would change the experience. i often thought of that with my SL estate – were were a community BUT we were also isolated from the rest of SL – there isn’t a real world analogy to jumping in the car and driving around and discovering things. inSL, you have to know about a place in order to TP to it

good observation chris, the last few weeks have not been a steady downward slope, it has been going up and down erratically – wonder what that’s about?
