i don’t have a testing lab (c’mon, i am not even real!) but i like doing the best i can for people using sim-on-a-stick (i figure i am acting as an unofficial ambassador to OpenSim and perhaps some decisions might be made based on the performance of sim-on-a-stick) *starts sweating*
i am able to get my hands on four different Windows machines including my main XP box, my lappie which was Vista 64-bit until an hour ago (but is now, proudly by my own hand, Win7 – woot for the wannabe g33klette), a Vista 32-bit at work, and another lappie that is Win7. i know that hardly constitutes a testing lab but it’s what i have =)
these tests were not exhaustive by any means – i started up the non-viewer version first via its BAT file, then fired up Imprudence 1.3.2 (non-SSE version), then shut it all down and started the viewer version by its BAT. on both work machines (vista 64 and Win7) the Apache part of MoWeS won’t run but that does not prevent OpenSim and Imprudence from working (i think that only affects the Wifi admin panel). on my newly converted lappie at home, which is Win7 now, Apache does run – i think the work machines have additional security or maybe IIS7 running which might be the conflict
if you have experience with the latest simonastick.com build of OpenSim 0.7.1.1 on some other configuration, drop a note and it will help others
i think it is unusual to see two releases of OpenSim so tightly grouped time-wise and i have no idea how to anticipate the next release, but i’ll keep up with Diva’s D2 builds (within a week or two) because if Crista Lopes thinks it’s important enough to update, then that means there are real benefits for you and me =)
a very big thank you to Crista for the build and her talented work that makes sim-on-a-stick possible and a big thanks to all the developers of OpenSim. also a shout out with props to Roger, whose video i consulted last night while doing the latest build (if that video ever gets taken down, i’ll be in a heap o’ trouble!) =D
ps – on a separate note (pun?), how does one go about getting lip sync to work? is it possible on the stick or does it require the installation of a voice app like Whisper or Mumble? i am not so interested in doing actual voice in-world, but for doing videos where voice will be laid in separately (ie, they will be recorded by voice talent ahead of time and then played into a mic or line-in – this is for scenario-based training videos). i can calibrate a mic and see it make the little Preferences meter go up and down, but the lips aren’t a movin’! =\

I believe it’s the LipSync options in Debug Settings. Correct me if I’m wrong, tho, I’ve only ever messed with it once.

i set it in region settings (allow voice chat), then in debug and it was set to true, then in Prefs and enabled it, selected the mic and set its level (it was going up and down as i tapped the mic), hit the reconnect voice and still nada =(

hi ELQ, i get this in the Local Chat window:
Disconnected from in-world Voice Chat
and the Talk buttons in the lower right are dimmed out – so the stick does not have any voice stuff it seems =(

Hi Ener – lip-sync requires a working voice system – so for SL, Vivox and for OpenSim, Whisper/Mumble. The key element is the SLVoice.exe program which runs in parallel with the viewer – it receives the sound and sends a stream of instructions to the viewer about how loud the average sound is so that crude speech gestures and lip-sync animations (and the green overhead brackets) can show up properly. Unfortunately just having the microphone working isn’t enough afaik.

hmm, i thought i answered you Neil??? i must be really confused! =D
i kind of figured but was hoping that it could do the lip sync without actually creating in-world audio
i am a little familiar with lip syncing from the ALICE project

thanks Neil on the confirmation – now i can stop clciking and changing debug settings! =)

hey MizJed! the latest SoaS should have the bobcat (maybe it’s a Caterpillar cuz it’s yellow, or maybe i was scared to make it white and get a cease and desist from bobcat!)
the boots are from Sunny Whitfield and she has a store in In-Worldz and i think still in Second Life
glad to hear the stick is working for you =)

One other ‘stupid’ question…I had an issue just after I posted, where I modified one of the default hairdos that came with the SoaS files, and it keeps reverting to the original state once I log out and log back in. It’s a curious thing…
