i was reading a great post by Maria - Features of a minimum usable WebGL viewer - in which she discusses what a web-based browser should have as features. i very much like that she used Kataspace as an example. i explored Kataspace in december of 2010 and loved the simplicity of the viewer and even posted a video of it in this post
if you haven’t tried Kataspace out to see how a web-based browser can feel, you really should try it out. snap, what a bummer, i can’t find Kataspace online anymore, so the video above will be the closest thing you have to how it looks
if you have ideas about a web-based browser, add your comments to Maria’s post above as it seems she is pulling together crowd sourcing and funding for this
in her post she mentions previewing an OAR and that a web-based viewer could make that easier. i never thought that viewing an OAR was something complex or time consuming but i also use OpenSim under very specific conditions. since we have a dedicated server, it is easy for me to load OARs on it with an RDP to the server and pulling up one of the OpenSim command consoles. the command for loading an OAR is simple:
load oar c:\myoarfile.oar
for an even easier way, and the technique i typically use, i just fire up a “scratch” version of sim-on-a-stick that i have on my main work machine. this copy of sim-on-a-stick is 100% for importing objects or OARs or for quickly making/modding something. i call it a scratch version because it never has anything on it that i can’t blow away – i guess it’s like a sandbox for me
of course this only applies if you are Windows-based (sorry Macs, but your old commercials said you are more fun than pc and i’m only about being productive - burn!) =p *who says ‘burn’ anymore? clearly i do!* =D
even the biggest OARs only take seconds to load (6.96 seconds in the video below), so if you are wondering about what an OAR looks like, try SoaS – it’s fast, easy, and cheap! and if you need an OAR, try one of the two free ones i have at enerhax.com! =)

i used it to see what the oars are like. since i am on different computers, i am so lazy that i have my internal ip instead of my localhost. but it still not accessible to the outside. i dont like outside people anyway.

hey, how do you do that with your IP? is your internal IP static? (like i have a frigging clue) =D
what’s the advantage of doing that over localhost?
