OpenSim inventory backup: how to

making an inventory backup from OpenSim is so simple, even a french-canadian frog can do it!

you must have access to your server and then go in-world and be on the sim of the console you are using (we have four consoles in Reaction Grid, each with 4 sims)

once you are on the sim, just type:

save iar John Doe / password

it saves the file out for you to then copy or ftp to a location of your choice (note – my password is not really i3atP0utin3 although i really do eat poutine) =D

wait a few moments and ta dah! full documentation is here

  2. and for worlds like Dreamland Metaverse that might run sims for other people who may not have access to the server, i would ask for regular backups or at least an occasional backup sent to you

it’s pretty easy and only took about 5 minutes to try out and write about (took longer to copy the 72 MB file over!)

  3. Ener –

Do you know if this works with hypergrid teleports? Or does the region you’re on have to be the on the same grid as your inventory?

  4. very good question. i have only tried it on our own sims in reaction grid where we have our own server

i guess the issue is access to the server. the command runs on the opensim console so if you can stand on the sim and access its console it should work

with the briefcase feature, i imagine i could not run this command to get your inventory even if you are on our sim (would defeat that briefcase thing i suppose)
