  1. I tried New World when I first started hearing about it and gave it a try. My LAN setup is a bit different, so it wasn’t able to connect my sim to the ‘Net. I may give it a go again, but I am likely better off with SoaS and working out the configuration I need.

  2. and you have some unique needs plus you are out there on Kitely and CreatedWorlds

your use of SoaS is the epitome of effectiveness – a personal studio to build discrete items and then export them out

  3. Ener –

Why do you say “OSGrid” region launcher? As far as I know, New World Studio sets up a separate Diva Distro-style minigrid.

They used to attach to their own grid — New World Grid — but now folks just hypergrid teleport in.

  4. I gave a try to the Mac version. As it couldn’t start, i followed what you call a “facebook” link… Which is actually a redirect to a text file on dropbox.com… That’s unclear. I’d be happy to spend some energy and test further, if I could see somewhere the other’s feedback and compare with my experience.

  5. sorry Maria – i am wrong. i tend to think that the ultimate thing is to connect your own grid (a la Diva) to OSGrid because that would mean the router is configured for any hypergridding

New World Studio has virtually zero information about their launcher and i was trying to spread the word the best i could

you are correct Gudule (salut mon amie Belge!) it’s the only information i have as well, which came to me via a German connection (by the way Gudule, i like the way you talked about Linda’s work being a bit like Ikea – she is wonderful) =)

that’s a shame to hear that you are having issues with the Mac version – i was hoping this would help Mac people out and i don’t know of any other resources than those links

i’d say drop an email to the email address in that text file with a brief account of what happenned – did anything start at all?

it takes a lot of effort to create a package that you hope works for many people but there are so many complexities that it’s a hard goal to achieve (lol, just trying to redo this blog is a Herculean task that will probably take 20 hours – means less time to check stuff out or even do my own work – maybe i should stay in my small bubble!) =D

good luck and if you get success on the Mac, please let me know – there is a large part of this community wanting a convenient solution =)

  6. Please keep in mind it’s just a test and NOT the final version. It might be best to follow Olivier’s instructions on facebook or join the blog of New World Studio. Only a part of the features is enabled up to now! For me everything worked fine from the beginning: Windows Vista 32bit, Windows 7 32bit and Windows 7 64bit. And on the Stick as well. A friend of mine is successful on his Mac. It might be helpful to send a feedback to Olivier.

  7. New Word Studios makes Open Sim access so easy! I followed instructions from Maria’s blog and ‘Hey Presto!’ instant Open Sim on a snap. Geddit? Sim on a Snap!

No more messing with the technical stuff, which I always seem to bumble and fall over rather comicly! So easy even I blogged about it XD

Although, I wasn’t sure what would making my mini-grid public would bring, I await more blogs as I am totally new to this concept.

I mean if going public allows people to come and visit without them hacking into my network/PC then I have big plans for my mini-grid and eventually have it hosted 24/7.

  8. I will give a try, I am just so curious if this so “easy to use” as their old one. Anyway where I can submit bugs to their development team ?.

  9. Hello Ener,

    thanks for your post.

As Maria said, it’s now based on a standalone install, although it will be possible to attach it to a grid in the near future. I’ll tell more about all the features I would like to add in soon.

The downloads are test packages only, so this may not be very usable as is and was meant to check that basic functionality works on Windows, Linux and Mac, which does well so far except some little bugs. So this is a work in progress.

Anyway, I brought some fixes since then and added some missing features and we’re near the final release which is planned for may ;)

I’ll post on the blog @ http://www.newworldstudio.org/site/blog about a new test release soon and will provide more information about how to start it up. I will also setup a mantis platform for people to report bugs.

    Thanks !
    Olivier.

I’ll put a mantis platform online soon for everyone to make bug reports.

  11. hi Olivier! it’s nice to hear from you and you are most welcome here!

your tool is fantastic and there is a HUGE need for one that works for Mac uusers (so many educators ask me about this) – about 20% of the traffic to simonastick.com is via Mac

thanks you for the link to your blog and i will be glad to reprint psiost here and point pwople to your site from now on (i didn’t even know there was a blog for you!)

i voted Imp 1.3.2 as well on it and see many have – it’s a stable, fairly low overhead viewer suitable for old timers like me as well as n00bs!

good luck and let us know when you are in a good spot with your latest versions! =)

  12. @Ener,

    thanks !

This version is very new and there’s nothing very usable yet. This is why there is not a lot of information about New World Studio currently but when I get a final release, I’ll start producing more documentation and videos.

Thanks for your vote, I also prefer Imprudence generally because it closely follows OpenSim development.

  13. Cool let me know and I will colaborate testing newworldgrid.

  14. Hi just to point out that NWS wont automatically attach to osgrid its a stand alone although its going to add this as a feature (I think) at the moment it does not attach to osgrid and in version 6.9.0 it attached to new world grid. In version 0.7.1 it was produced as a hypergrid enabled stand alone sim.
