same rhetoric but actions will speak louder than words . . .
for some reason, when i read this, it makes me less confident in any recovery and new growth =\

But you don’t use “main” second life anymore as far as I’m aware, why would you worry about a recovery and growth? your main areas appear to be opensim related which if by your calculations Second Life does not recover, your “area” would peak with potential.
So I’m not sure what side your rooting for.

i’m not rooting for any side. i have no reason to wish any ill will toward Second Life
my use is very specific and not in competition with SL. in fact, OpenSim needs SL to be around for viewer development (there is no OpenSim viewer per se)
i think SL is great for many people and i have friends still doing well in there
for three years i was heavily vested inSL and it will always be a part of me that i am grateful for
SL does not work for educators and since taht is my focus, i would not recommend SL for educators or some uses such as governmental
SL is 99% there, they just lack that last 1%. it’s that last bit that drove me out. i could no longer afford to float the shortfall i had in my $2,920 tiers and am very critical of SL’s lack of respect for customers like me who heralded them online
i can see why the contempt i have toward their customer service (not same as customer support, which was very good) can be seen as bashing SL, but i do hope it succeeds
there success will increase the success of OpenSim because their failure also reflects on OpenSim
outside people lump virtual worlds together and if the think they are hokey and filled with depraved people, they think that of OpenSim as well
so i don’t root for the downfall but find Philip’s words pretty vanilla and not inspiring (the first hour thing has been touted for 2 years now)
