Linden Lab loses $100 million since July

i blogged about SharesPost back on July 19th and LL was valued at $345 million in the first week of July. then i checked in on that value in mid-August and they had dropped to $271 million

now they are valued at $248 million, oof, that’s gotta hurt!

  1. Sharespost valued LL at 383 million USD in march. so the valuation has dropped (counts on fingers) 135 million since march. that’s 35 percent in 5 months. to me this is the single most significant issue that may explain the various strange strategic decisions made recently by the officers of LL. if the board members want out, this would be very important news to them. i believe these rating changes probably reflect skepticism about LL’s perceived profitability.

  2. nicely analyzed Wizard *makes note to promote Wizard to Chief Analyst*

when you put it that way, 35% in 5 months, it’s a huge possible reason LL is going nuts! Philip’s mansion just blocks from Golden Gate Park is in jeopardy!

firing 30% of your people and cutting anything that is lower than your biggest items would make sense just to stop this massive decline

sharespost is venture stuff and not the same as the stock market – but even so, this 35% is indicative of something and it’s not good

  3. what does this number mean? it is hard to say. all i know is that when i look at their other items like facebook and twitter, those seem to reflect the general vibe of their growth

this “perception” is meaningful – how much, who knows . . .

  4. Well of course the numbers are going down. People are tired of paying HIGH prices in SL. The only bad thing now… is I cashed out in Inworldz today and instead of getting 50,000L’s I only got 43,000L’s. So I was jipped out 7000L… THAT hurt and I was appalled.

  6. bummer on your money, so what happened? is that their percentage? i hope not, eesh and cripes!

i know that i am not the only one that had enough of Linden Lab. look at how they treated Jokay, what a shame. and i just could not cope and never ever got just a hello – come on, not even a hello?

well, maybe my $3,000 a month was no big deal back in february, but you add a bunch of regular slobs like me who believed inSL and got burned out and now it adds up. must be nice to blow off customers like that . . .

but hey, i get to build in OpenSim and i hope other people find an outlet for their creativity and virtual world needs =)

  7. Yes it their NEW percentage! Can you believe that. I get really frustrated when I see people get so greedy for nothing. Let people have fun and make a few bucks. This new percentage at Inworldz is kind of an eye opener for me. So sad, cause I really like the whole virtual life.

  8. geezus Sunny, if that is right, that’s 14%!!! that won’t last long and i hate to see that – INworldz has a very good shot at becoming the new Second Life if they can scale properly

well your store is on our new grid and as soon as we are hypergrid enabled, consider it your home. the new hypergrid thing is supposed to protect your creations better and always leave your name as the creator

DW has her PayPal vendor thing almost 100% so that would be nice for you

  10. That sounds great. I really like Inworldz, but if they REALLY need to take that much percentage it might not be worth me working so hard to get product in there. OR… I’ll have to charge more to make up the difference, stinky pooooo!

  11. stinky poo indeed! well, OSGrid will continue to grow, but it will be some time before you’d get decent traffic i would think (like 2 years?)

that is too big a percentage and can’t be right? can it? =\
