Linda’s Kids – child avatars for educators

Linda’s Kids – almost sounds like a charity eh? well, it is a very charitable gift by Linda Kellie who has made several child avatars and a thanks to Beacara for placing them in an OAR and sending them to me. Beacara also added another boy avatar, a young teen. you may remember Beacara as the person who created the fantastic art catalogue on a stick =)

the kid’s OAR is here as a zipped file (12.6 megs) and it includes 4 boys and 3 girls, some shoes, and a hard hat! load this OAR on your stick and right click on the avatar display to open and copy to inventory or copy and wear. the shapes, skins, and outfits load in less than a second! (how to load an OAR)

if you are a teacher and want to include these as part of your customised sim-on-a-stick, just follow the instructions in yesterday’s post. Linda sets a Creative Commons license on her work and asks for nothing in return. if you do use her work, i’d suggest dropping her a note because that’s a great way of showing your appreciation (if you want to do more, she has PayPal donate buttons which go to helping her keep this content online) =)

Linda does incredible work, even her display stands are fantastic! each has its own light and they are certainly suitable for use in anyone’s store (to me that really says a lot about a person’s passion and pride in their work – taking the time to make a wonderful, and useful, packaging for it) =)

thank you Linda for creating such wonderful avatars and thank you Beacara for packing this up and bringing it to our attention, this dovetails nicely into the posts from the last two days about education =)

  1. Thank you for sharing Ener,

There are many educators on Kitely who are looking for good children avatars for their students.

  2. it’s all Linda (and Beacara) and i’ll eventually be making some as well and probably package them in this same OAR

eventually some key resource URLs will emerge (like Linda’s and OpenSim-Creations) that offer top quality “stuff”. it’s already much better than even just a year ago!

can’t wait to try out Kitely! =)

  3. Hi Ener,

You’ve heard it here first: we decided to add both email/password based logins and Twitter based logins in our next build. Adding Twitter may delay things by a few days but, if there are no unexpected complications, it should be ready around the end of this month / early next month.

Our thinking was, why not enable avatars who have many Twitter followers (I’m picturing pink hair for some reason… ;-)) to use their Twitter account with Kitely?

  5. I have loaded them and they are great. Thankyou Ener for pursuing this issue. I am going to let the students select their own child avatar.

  6. [...] Kellie created some nice child avatars that i mentioned last week and i felt compelled to donate $30. $30 isn’t much but it maybe helps pay for [...]

  7. [...] your student’s inventory! ah ha, that’s the nipple culprit which we can nip in the bud (oh no, so many puns!). if you are using Sim-on-a-Stick, then everyone will be Simona Stick which is awesome for girls but boys might prefer to be Simon Stick! you can use Diva’s Wifi Admin panel and create Simon Stick (or any name) and that way have a girl and boy avatar. you could use your school name or mascot as the last names for your default avatars. once you have your base students made, you’ll need to go through their inventory and delete all the things you don’t want including default skins and shapes. then you can either make a generic shape and skin and let them mod themselves (they will anyway) with shapes and skins in their inventory or in a store on their region or you can use existing kids’ avatars [...]
