I’m finally giving in and buying a subscription plan.
Previously, I’d only buy as many Kitely Credits as I needed to test stuff out when writing about it… I think I’ve spent maybe $5 so far.
I tend to try to avoid using vendor products as much as possible for personal use when I’m writing about them. Same reason I don’t vote in elections I cover. I want the opportunity to be snide about everyone equally — and that way people can’t accuse me of having favorites.
Well, they accuse me anyway, but at least I can blow a raspberry in their face when they do.
But this new deal is too good to pass up.
I want to create an area for support group meetings. I want to have a health-and-fitness support group (I just had back surgery last week and want to start getting — slowly! — into shape and start eating right, etc…) and maybe a business-oriented mastermind support group.
Kitely, with its easy logins is the perfect place, especially with hypergrid support coming soon. And with megaregions, there will be plenty of space to create a great virtual fitness campus.
The other option would be SpotON3D, with its web-based viewer plugin, and, patent issues aside, I would actually consider them except for the lack of OAR exports and no hypergrid support.
I’m figuring on going for the $35 a month plan with unlimited use, set up a 16-region campus — most of it empty except for walking paths to start with — and pull in a bunch of stuff from Linda Kellie OARs to outfit it. She even has some exercise-related animations, and, as I know from personal experience, you can lose weigh by doing virtual exercise. Plus — way easier on the back!

A note to Ener, and other people who may wish to upload multi-region builds to Kitely before OpenSim includes the multi-region OAR format we submitted. There is a workaround you can use to get almost your entire build into Kitely without having to wait:
1) Place all the regions you wish to upload into a single megaregion in your existing OpenSim installation. For example you can upload all your desired OAR files into sim-on-a-stick.
2) Save the megaregion’s root region (the south-west region) to an OAR file.
3) Create a new appropriately-sized Kitely world and select to upload the OAR file you just created.
This will upload almost everything included in your megaregion into your new big Kitely world. Some things, like the terrain for all but the root region you saved, won’t be uploaded but if you have those regions’ terrain stored as RAW files then you will be able to manually upload them into your Kitely world via the viewer later.
Once your world has been uploaded into Kitely you may wish to disable megaregion mode while editing it and re-enable it once you are done making region-wide changes.

Haha, Maria drank the Kitely kool aid finally! I’m telling you, this one is huge. I know the feeling – soon as I saw this latest update my head nearly exploded from the 567 different things I want to do!
Kitely kicks a$$ in so many ways. I’m going to especially love the snide gloating we’ll be doing watching the SLUers start abandoning their sinking ship in favor of flying the Kitely!
