people have extended sim-on-a-stick like mad! from doing multi-user where several PCs can log into one stick to now being able to hypergrid from the stick!
that’s right, go visit friends on OSGrid right from your stick! but . . . you have to be German
Beacara, the innovative avatar that created a well received art catalogue on a stick has a friend named Dorena who created a tutorial on how to set up sim-on-a-stick to be able to hypergrid, the only challenge is that her tutorial is in German in a PDF! doh!
here’s a link to the PDF
i tried translating it on Google Translate – you can upload PDF and it usually does a decent job, but it came out all wacked without any real formatting (below). if you come up with a cleaner version, i’ll be glad to post it, otherwise it might be easier to learn German! =)
[the following is only for reference - i know some of you will understand it even though it's incomplete]

With “Sim on a Stick” into HyperGrid
A tutorial from Dorena Verne http://www.gridtalk.de/showthread.php?tid=613&page=2
1. First Download the “Sim on stick” I’ve downloaded it here, .. but only without the Imprudence viewer 0.7.2, which I’ve already http://simonastick.com/ Unzip to any location
2. Then an account at: https://account.dyn.com/entrance/ create. Then there set up a dynamic dyndns address. Does not cost anything, .. advertising on the matrimonial Startseite bezieht sich auf eine Pro-Version. Home refers to a Pro version.
3. Router up. I describe here the times based on my Fritzbox. Must first be entered in the router address, along with the DynDNS Password: It requires multiple ports to be released. Once via TCP:

So the conclusion from the looks at me: (pic in PDF)

Ah, yes, .. in this particular case the shares would also extend to port 9003, .. 9004 only have the port Region. also included, possibly because of an additional region later.
4. Sim configure on Stick inis: For this you go into the diva folder and then into the bin folder. then configure the folder “config-include” The MyWorld.ini as follows:
[Startup] SmartThreadPool is reported to work well on Mono/Linux, but UnsafeQueueUserWorkItem has been benchmarked with better ; Performance on .NET / Windows async_call_method = UnsafeQueueUserWorkItem ; recommended: false for mono / true for Windows ; use_async_when_possible = true

So .. now in the region folder, which is also located in the BIN directory of the diva. Since the original regions are in the unfavorable grid coordinates for the hyper area around 1000, .. I’m just überall 8000 hinzugerechnet. added every 8000th ; * Regions configuration file ; * This is Your World
[SimonaStick 1] [RegionUUID = "f25087aa-6a15-47b3-9c5f-805b46ef1485" Location = "9383.8949" InternalAddress = "0.0.0.0" InternalPort = 9000 AllowAlternatePorts = False ExternalHostName = "dorenas-world.dyndns-web.com"

Instead I have to enter it here of course your dyndns address.
5.Viewer up: Imprudence and start in the Grid Manager, .. new network / grid:

6.Start the log and simulator. Batch file with the name: OpenSim_autostart click and wait till all went through in the console. then login with the Imprudence viewer. By default, there are the following user data: Zitat: User First Name: Simona User Last Name: Stick Password: 123
We did it! Your local region is immediately ready for the Hyper Grid. Was at times “Dorenas World” with dear Simona:
——————————————————————————–
Page 7
Since you yourself just now also accessible from the network are, it is strongly recommended that the password for your Simona change. which goes very conveniently via the web interface, without veeery console. Enter the following into your browser (of course with your dyndns address: cool dorenas-world.dyndns-web.com:9000/wifi/user/account, then you have before you the (?)

Right to you then you need to log in with your Simona. On the left you can see, visitors to your site or even create a new account So and now to “Edit Account” Then choose a new password:

Have Fun!

since i have a region in osgrid, hypergrid for me is interesting if i find the time to do it. i am busy with movies and shows on tv right now. no doing them, watching them.
i also have a kitely account but i dont even know how to get to my accunt except through fb and then through virtuals. but that would be interesting — 100k prims x 4 and hypergrid to osgrid.
the osgrid with hypergrid is better than have 4 regions on osgrid. the only problem i see is what clothes do i wear with i am in osgrid?

can do simple translation-clean-out of the pdf if you like.
what i really do not get why it should only work in germany?
maybe an dynamic dns-client could go on the usb stick too? Then it would be totally independent of any router magic.
just did the first pdf-page and dropped it here http://www.mediafire.com/?vcuj5870eenxqf7

here is a somehow called ‘english’-version of the nice tutorial:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?akxwt8drcx73lhr
atm i am really not so sure if it might be better to reserve the grid-coordinates of the own-sim instead of just using anyone.

Of course you do NOT be german to do it … just to read that pdf ;-)
Im Dorenas partner as well in the virtual as in the real world and sorry to say that her English depends just as much on Google translator as your German … so she wrote it in German and a translation into decent English should not be expected. Probably I could do it, but since Dorenas-World is preparing for their 2nd aniversary to come up soon, Im too wound up in this and a couple other things to get myself involved into just another project right now.
So the main problem is the language-barrier on the tutorial, but basically the whole thing will of course work for you – if you can make ends of the tutorial – no matter where on this beautiful planet you may live.
See you all in the virtual world and dont forget to stop by in Dorenas-World when you hypertravel around …
Yours

it’s a neat use of sim-on-a-stick and Anachron is correct, the transaltion is Google so it does not reflect anything that Dorena wrote
sounds exciting your 2nd anniversary festivities and good luck planning those =)
whoa! nice job Dil Spitz! i’ll post that today, thanks! =)

i don’t understand what you are saying Dil?
thanks for the translation and Dorena is glad to share them so the english pdf you made is online here (next post)
it’s a neat way to extend sim-on-a-stick and it continues to amaze me at how technical the OpenSim user base is. i could only wish to know as much as Dorena does and to be that smart! =)

Dil wrote in one of its translation following lines: “{/ me (Dil) is not sure that its so smart just to grave any coordinates on the grid without reserving them, but will not argue here.}”
I told her that I do not agree with .. have a comment because looking at nothing in translation. Especially not if the content is put into question. Unfortunately, she has removed their translation, instead of correcting them.
Kind regards

But as I said in my last post, please add any comments in a new translation.

thanks for clearing that up Dorena =)
this blog’s readers are the smartest people in OpenSim and they know that anything regarding OpenSim needs to be tweaked
even the simonastick.com that i have on the site is meant to be a starting point and many have made all sorts of changes to it so taht it runs in their environment
i have a newer post than this one which mentions that a person may need to make changes to your translated tutorial and also that the translation itself is provided as a courtesy and does not accurately reflect what you may have in your original version
our readers are super resourceful and some may contact you but i bet those giving it a try will figure it out =)
thanks for the clarification and also thank you for being one of the OpenSim innovators that can do things like this! =)
