generating mazes

the Kowloon Walled City inspired Hackers Sleepless Cty (Hax Nuit) is loaded with mazes

the underground area is a series of tunnels and passages that are maze-like and the city above has around 900 apartments which are maze-like with some open apartments and stairs and holes to move between floors

there are many types of mazes and i’d like to include some traditional mazes in the street level shops (some building have the first two floors available as shop space, so i might try to make a two level maze!) =)

because working in the near-completed city gets frustrating (camming is uber tight), i made templates of each shop space and will create the mazes on a new SoaS instance. then i can export each as an XML and import them into the city

to help layout the mazes, i used an online maze generator and then re-sampled the output images to a larger size to use as a guide texture (re-sample using “nearest neighbor” to keep the edges crisp)

once these are imported, i’ll make them look like shops complete with closed doors and boarded up openings along the outside walls

genmaze (10)

some mazes will be simple

genmaze (32)

some mazes are harder

the blue ball is set to the centre of the sim

gee, this is going to take some time

  1. mazes, always fun!

I have a maze generator in SL… you just drop the data from an online maze generator into the script, and it builds itself. i’ll have to come see how well it works in OpenSim or Kitely soon :)

  2. try it with sim-on-a-stick! and you can in Kitely two for free (i think it’s one region and two hours free a month)

and read some back posts for the hints on things i need you to script! =p
