the virtual world community is phenomenal in many ways and generosity abounds
here are 4 opensim OARs that are incredibly beautiful – Devokan OpenSim OARs for download
thanks Dot for posting them and to their outrageously talented creators Paislee, vanderkar, and ldinstl_chimera!
correction: sorry about that, these OARs were all created by Paislee *drops draw, makes me feel like a slacker!* and photos were done by Dot, vanderkar, and Chimera (the images below link to their respective Flickr accounts)

Incredible what people can create with virtual worlds. This is one of the main things what I like to see, people creating things with their own hands.

I would love to see the license terms of these OARs. Can folks upload them to commercial grids? Can they use them as a base for internal company builds, or as a base for building commercial builds for later sale?
I tried to log in and post a question about this on the Devorkian site, but I couldn’t answer any of the anti-spam questions! Like “what is the vast desert age” or “where is the pellet factory.”

Just a quick clarification… Paislee developed the regions; the photos were done by Vandekar and ldinstl_chimera (the links take you to their Flickr streams).

Maria, we build for enjoyment and relaxation — not commercially.
They are fantasy areas. Are they really appropriate for business use?
So, no, they are not for commercial use. They are for people to enjoy and build on, but not to make money from.
Now, educational use is another matter — if the areas can spark students’ imaginations and stories…

trying to upload these to osgrid sim, and getting errors in the ‘Magic number in the gzip header is incorrect’…
I have no idea how to fix, which is bad, cause I want to upload t hese.

My apologies — I’ve just checked this and there does seem to be a problem with the files. They were working originally, but somehow something has gone amiss in the meantime.
I will make some fresh OARs from the originals, which can still be visited on OSgrid — search for Deepwater Primordium, Starfyre and Nocturne on the world map.
Once again, I am sorry for any inconvenience.

thanks Dot for re-doing the OARs, i often (well, maybe a third of the time) have problems importing OARs and IARs that i get from others and get the same gzip header error

Do you know with these OAR’s if everything in them are original creations? Textures, sculpts etc.? Or if the things that are not original are licensed to be distributed in this manor?
I couldn’t find any information on it or on anything about the licensing of them.
They are truly wonderful builds from what I can tell. If you have a link that will tell more information about it I would love to have it please.

Dot,
I’d be into learning more on licensing as well. Can we remix and adapt stuff and reshare from them if used in the open source areas and kept non commercial?
Beautiful work!
Cheers,
Jamie
