facebook player hater still lurks about as IPO nears

right after i got “disabled” by facebook, i ran across an interesting (as in disturbed and obsessed) character who was making it his mission in life to get fake facebook accounts banned. the irony is that he himself is a fake person (unless his parents were Satanists) with a name of Lucifer Midnight (i should give him the benefit of the doubt – what if that really is his name?) =p

i even engaged in a few online conversations with him on his blog and tried to understand his reasoning. what a waste of time that was! he (or she) is just an angry person that probably has a crappy life and rather than elevating himself with constructive creativity, finds some measure of solace in hurting others

hurting may be too strong of a word – it’s only facebook accounts but those can represent a lot of work. i had about 4,000 friends and always played hearts back with anyone that played with me and i always participated in conversations and likes. facebook was a good channel for this blog because some people only commented there. Lucifer didn’t have me banned, i was just one of many that got culled out and it probably didn’t help that my info blurb said i was a fake person! o_O

the other day i ran across his blog and he’s still at it! Ban Fake Facebook Profiles

we all know that facebook isn’t a safe option for avatars and we also know that facebook is all about making money but it also continues to be an important way for people to communicate in ways previously not possible (as does twitter, youtube, and other social media for real changes like in Egypt last year)

facebook is about to test how much money the world thinks it is worth with its IPO in one week (may 17th)

some people think it is over valued and a recent drop in ads served per day to users is being blamed on mobile devices

time will tell . . .

  1. Geez, what a loser. He must have one helluva miserable life to be spending hours comparing FB accounts to SL accounts with the sole purpose of getting them kicked from FB.

Btw, I couldn’t resist. I tweeted “How do I report a Lucifer Midnight as a fake FB account?”

  3. @Sarge, apparently he had a minor role in the movie, Surrogate as one of the 1st 2 people that died when their avatars got nuked. The clue is he’s not the son of the CEO that developed the avatars. You’ll get the joke when you see the operator’s dead body. Midnight’s blog is on the wordpress.com domain, so there’s no whois info for him. From the amount of time he spent the only thing that I can conclude is that he’s not employed, leaving that he’s either retired or disabled. Since retirees don’t waste time because what little left is precious, the only conclusion is that he’s disabled and probably forgot that his doctor set an appointment for him since prozac no longer works for him.

  4. Easy way, before facebook there was so many, so why using it in 1st place?

  5. Joe, I never saw Surrogate :-) I don’t get out much, since I have health issues that pretty much makes me a shut in. Unlike Lucifer the Loser, though, I have better things to do with my time than trolling SL-FB for the sole purpose of giving people a bad day.

  6. My facebook account was deleted and my avatar name is blocked and has been for a little over a year now. Whoever this guy is, he’s been at this for a long time.

What’s scary is that I tried to sign up with some of my alts names, and they’re ALL blocked too.

  7. i saw that Sarge, look out – he’ll be after you! =p

lol ELQ! that was immediate imagery for me, i love it and it is very true in this case!

well joe, he has a real disability in not having a heart! what a tool that guy is!

good point ZZ and before facebook, people have always had crazy names for their usernames on forums and no one thought anything of it (they weren’t trying to make money off of you either!) =)

Sarge, there is no comparison between you and Lucifer! you are an incredibly creative person and have provided much education to the virtual world community and you’re the Ener Hax Certified Official Hooker for Enclave Harbour! come on, that’s worth is weight in gold (or bs!) =D

hey Eliza, i bet facebook has a blacklist that includes all Second Life last names and they probably have some algorithms that analyze names. but with all the interesting names in the entire world, they must be blocking “real” people too! =(

oh well, Mark Suckerborg is no dummy and has always been about the money – despite trying to be cool in his hoodie!

  9. No, they aren’t blocking all SL surnames ;o), so there must be a straight blacklist.

  10. Oh good grief! What a weird quest this dude is on. I wonder what his real beef is? Just uber-ugly Absolutism- I guess, and around a terms of service? I think the prim ELQ mentioned is a sculptie shaped like a corn-cob. Get a book-club or something dude. I guess Westboro Baptist Church wouldn’t let him join.

  11. I would also mention that although you can permanently “delete” your FB account (see Ener’s link above), that FB still keeps some of your info on file, for “technical reasons.” Eeek.

For some people, deactivating their account is a an option to consider. As long as you don’t log back in after deactivating, your profile is hidden. If you ever need to use FB in an emergency (ha), you can simply log back in to re-activate your profile.

I believe some teens use a little trick:
They have 2 accounts… one innocent one for mom & dad to see, and a secret one that only their friends know about… they only activate secret account long enough to post messages, then they deactivate it for silent running. Repeat as necessary.

Just for kicks, you might want to occasionally log in and search your own name, to see if someone has made a fake account in your name (it does happen). Remember to not make those ex-significant-others mad, lol. FB even has a so-called solution to the “poser” problem:

To see FB’s explanation of the difference between deactivated and deleted accounts — and what happens to your info — see

AS for Lucifer M, I suspect there’s a special room reserved for him in Hades ;p

  12. @Sarge, the joke was the one almost everyone hears about who the real person is behind some SL female avatars. In Surrogate, one of the first 2 avatars nuked was a petite blond female. When the detectives got to the operator’s apartment, the coroner had to arrange for a crane to get his body out of the apartment.

@Ener, disturbed and obsessed does not adequately describe Midnight. Disturbed maybe if they believe the government is watching them and they cover their head with tinfoil to prevent the government from listening to their thoughts. Obsessed maybe if they wash their hands until they’re raw. When I mentioned that Midnight was disabled and probably forgot that his doctor set an appointment for him since prozac no longer works for him, that’s another way of saying he’s off the deep end. Probably if he was on facebook he would friend the likes of John Wayne Gacy, Jeffery Dahmler, or Son of Sam. If he has a guardian, I hope he takes him weekly to the emergency room and tells the attending doctor that he’s been given laxatives and still can’t use the toliet, Doc can you check him out?

  13. ” … they cover their head with tinfoil to prevent the government from listening to their thoughts. … ”

Everybody knows that doesn’t work. The government pays the big mining companies and refineries to implant nanotech into the processed metals, which also makes reception better for them and helps with their GPS tracking of your whereabouts.

You have to use something that is wholly organic. *points at his helmet*

  14. One thing I just thought was that Midnight could have a program to harvest SL resident names then to match them against Facebook pages by trying to load a page to see if he gets a page not found error. Which means he isn’t spending much time to do this and could be an ex Linden employee with a grudge, an ex Linden employee now working for Facebook, an ex Linden employee now an ex Facebook employee, someone that is profiting from this, or someone that is manipulating Linden’s or Facebook’s value.

One thing that someone could do to stop this would be similar to when Yahoo got subpoenaed to divulge some user identies. The users thought they were anonymous and could do whatever they wanted. WordPress has Midnight’s identity.
