do you know TheHyperGates.com?

i’m a virtual world hermit, no doubt about that – but it’s all good because i want to complete the Enclave Harbour project before getting out there more. of course, i still get distracted and this week i started enerhax.com as a freebie site. there are only a few things on it, but i’ll keep adding to it (busy? pfft, all i know is busy and i would not have it any other way) =)

so tonight, while watching some recorded House Hunters International about France i was messing around with subQuark’s iPad. it’s a pretty fun device although i could never justify spending $500 for one (i’d rather put that to a new PC!). it certainly would be awesome to do OpenSim from it, even if it was just exploration and not building (seems like a view-only client would require much less processor than a normal viewer but that’s my know-it-all butt talking, i’m clueless on that stuff)

slicedimpleanyway, i was looking at the google analytics for the fledgling enerhax.com site and saw that most hits came from this blog (no surprise on that) but that i was also getting a bunch of hits from TheHyperGates.com. so i checked them out and saw that there was a pic on their home page of an image i did to illustrate how slice and dimple are the same tool, just named differently for the shapes they are used for

i only know of TheHyperGates.com from Maria’s HyperGrid Business articles and monthly stats but never checked them out. what a neat site! and not because they post my pics (but thank you, i am honoured and pleased to be there) but because of the service they provide. they allow for self-registration of your region and provide a hypergate (as an IAR) that you can rez that lists all of their registered regions. it’s a bit like Maria’s Hyperica and a great resource you should take advantage of if you want visitors

ain’t the web amazing? the stuff ya run into! =)

  1. one of the higher level strategic advantages of opensim is the ability to travel inter grid. all opensimmers, if they care about opensim on a more political level should look around, and be proactive in involving their grid. others like hypreica will promote it.

some do like isolation, amd that is fine. but one does not have to be active in meet ing people, but look at it as a easy way to share a build and a perspective.

  2. So. Did you know that at least some of the textures used in the hypergate come from the Opengate project in SL originated by Doran Zemlja? The textures from the gate came for Doran’s original stargate. The opengate later gained many other textures that I created for Doran along with a few created by others. The sculpties used in the hypergate are also the sculpties that I created for Doran.

Long ago, I was playing with the opengate on my build platform in SL. I wanted to improve upon the event horizon textures. And none other than Doran Zemlja dials in. She took a look at what I was doing, we had some discussions, and that began a long collaboration in developing the opengate for SL. Doran did all of the network architecture, scripting and management and I contributed most of the textures.

I miss those days. They were fun.
