Diva/D2 Distro 0.7.4 is available

Diva’s D2 0.7.4 openSim distribution is available!

Diva Canto’s D2 distribution of OpenSim is the one used in Sim-on-a-Stick and thousands of non-stick deployments. it is pretty straightforward to install and a great way to go for running OpenSim¬†(Diva’s¬†instructions¬†are clear but a little dated)

if you run the D2 distribution, it has a built-in update function that is very easy and fast to run, and about as painless as possible

you can even run the update function in your version of Sim-on-a-Stick. if you do, i suggest making a full copy of your stick as a back-up (but i am also paranoid of losing work)

to use the update function, shut down OpenSim and navigate to where you have either Diva’s build or the SoaS build and run the Update.exe function

[drive]:\SoaS0731\diva-r18611\bin\Update.exe (or \diva-os\bin\Update.exe)

two foldersit needs an active internet connection and takes a few minutes to download the new build and run the update. you’ll be asked if you want to migrate your Wifi panel pages. if you made changes to the HTML or images of those pages, say yes (you can simply say yes even if you did not)

once done, you’ll have an additional folder, diva-r20232, and you’ll run OpenSim from it (if you use a desktop shortcut to launch OpenSim make sure to change its path)

that’s it! now you’ll have the brand new shiny 0.7.4 version of OpenSim!

Sim-on-a-Stick will be updated later this week if you want a full new copy without any duplicate folders

  1. I have found it best to create a new folder, named Diva, and always copy the latest update into it. Doing it this way preserves all my link and other related information, while also preserving those original update files.

  2. […] already, you should try it – it’s fast and easy and discussed in yesterday’s post). i do the “clean build” in order to keep the file size as small as […]

  3. so let me get this right – you get the new D2, then just swap out the diva-###### folder?

it then loads like normal except with the new OpenSim version?

so does that mean I could keep my clean build and simply swap it out for each new version? (delete old folder, paste in new one)

if that is true, you just saved me like 2 or 3 hours of work for each update! =)
