Diva’s D2 0.7.4 openSim distribution is available!
Diva Canto’s D2 distribution of OpenSim is the one used in Sim-on-a-Stick and thousands of non-stick deployments. it is pretty straightforward to install and a great way to go for running OpenSim (Diva’s instructions are clear but a little dated)
if you run the D2 distribution, it has a built-in update function that is very easy and fast to run, and about as painless as possible
you can even run the update function in your version of Sim-on-a-Stick. if you do, i suggest making a full copy of your stick as a back-up (but i am also paranoid of losing work)
to use the update function, shut down OpenSim and navigate to where you have either Diva’s build or the SoaS build and run the Update.exe function
[drive]:\SoaS0731\diva-r18611\bin\Update.exe (or \diva-os\bin\Update.exe)
it needs an active internet connection and takes a few minutes to download the new build and run the update. you’ll be asked if you want to migrate your Wifi panel pages. if you made changes to the HTML or images of those pages, say yes (you can simply say yes even if you did not)
once done, you’ll have an additional folder, diva-r20232, and you’ll run OpenSim from it (if you use a desktop shortcut to launch OpenSim make sure to change its path)
that’s it! now you’ll have the brand new shiny 0.7.4 version of OpenSim!
Sim-on-a-Stick will be updated later this week if you want a full new copy without any duplicate folders
