i saw this post on Capsule Computers - Virtual Second Life Company Attempts Crowd-funding - and agree that it is a strange crowdsource funding project
basically, Nintai Brokerage Corporation wants to keep their presence in Second Life and is looking for $5,000 and claims that they teach people how to play the stock market (ah, that explains the world markets of late!) =p
i have pondered that for our Enclave Harbour (sounds dumb though) and also for a 3D avatar printing service (post sitting in draft mode getting dusty). Maria at Hypergrid Business has talked about crowd funding a WebGL viewer (that seems like a great idea) =)
thanks Caleb Langkamp for reporting on this!

I must see the world differently.
Crowd sourcing is, to me, that guy raising money for the Nicola Tesla museum, an indie developer with a new idea, a group to develop a new input method for people with disabilities, or building a Virtual World for capturing imaginations and Educating kids
But this?
Its like a billionaire crowd-sourcing for a 120 yacht because they are running a bit short and can only afford the 80 foot yacht, because…times are tough.
Hopefully this example will raise as much as the yacht buyer would get.

i have a similar perspective Breen. the thought of this for Enclave Harbour crossed my mind but because it is ultimately to support sales of a workbook, it doesn’t seem like the right thing
now if we were developing a set of science sims for use in schools that was directly tied to life, earth, and physical science (or grades 7,8, & 9) – then maybe . . .
i guess in that way it’s a bit like applying for traditional grants
