Kate Booth’s article is a must read – Virtual Worlds
Kate is an innovative power user of OpenSim and particularly sim-on-a-stick. i write about her often and this latest article by her is full of examples and her experience
if you have not used OpenSim yet but are curious, her article is well worth the read as are the videos in it to watch
if you have yet to try it, go to OSGrid and log in. if you have 30 minutes and a Windows machine, try out sim-on-a-stick – it doesn’t install anything on your machine
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
note: the second video (not by Kate) mentions that OpenSim is the open source version of Second Life. while i appreciate the explanation’s brevity in getting the idea across, it does a disservice to the OpenSim developers who have created OpenSim from the ground up in a different and more efficient programming language than Second Life. OpenSim looks the same because it is viewed with the same client side viewers. but to say that OpenSim is the open source version of Second Life is to compare a Bugatti Veyron with my 2005 Scion. both can bring you to beautiful vistas visible through a glass windscreen but both do so in very different ways. OpenSim has been tested to over one million prims and i’ve personally done 576,000 on sim-on-a-stick – neither have been done with Second Life. there are many other differences that i could ramble on about . . . =)
note to Kate – if you read this, what did you mean about a “pop up” in 0.7.2? i remember seeing you mention that but wasn’t sure what you meant?
0.7.3.1 should behave exactly like 0.7.2 for most purposes (fixes and changes are way down at behind the scenes levels)
plus no nipples in 0.7.3.1! =p
