i share and respect your perspective WhiteStar - society, as a whole, has to appreciate what it takes to teach and help provide that environment (nice bright classrooms, small class sizes, respect, etc)

even great teachers have a hard time with large class sizes and even the best circumstances can't help a poor teacher reach out better

great example Beacara and so true about BOTH children and adults! and you have expressed it very well because fantasy makes everything seem possible - even crazy things like going to the moon! =)

Right - every word!

And exactly this is the reason, why I found to the Sim-on-a-Stick-Project. Children and grown-ups, they love this way to find solutions, creative, full of fantasy and challenging as well (I wish I could express it in a better way)

University professors are so funny ... they aren't capable of understanding a few very fundamental & basic human things.

If your a "monotone deluxe" educator and you have to wake up your students to get them to listen & hear and yet they fail... Wonder why ? Simple, YOUR BORING THEM TO DEATH! Your failing them !!!

If your a "Power Teacher", excited & vibrant about the subject your teaching, the students feed off that and do much better... why, because THEY ARE ENGAGED!

Human beings have a tendency to do well at what they like, or with things that interest them or matter that is presented in an interesting method. The old saying "If you love (enjoy) what you do, you will Accell at it and do well" is very very true.

Math can be quite tedious & boring as we all know but I had one professor who actually made it interesting & fun with little challenges and math games (yeah, games he invented) and you know what, only 1 student failed and that was because they had to drop out due to illness.

Stereotyping (gender or otherwise), Categorizing & Classifying students does them ALL a massive disservice and in turn limits the teacher's potential to deliver material to benefit all the students. Every single individual, regardless of gender, race, colour or creed can do well in any field of endeavour or course of study if they have an instructor that is capable of harnessing the excitement.

To be a good teacher you have to be able to "Listen to & Hear" your students. You have to make it interesting and relative to them and show the cross connections. You need to be somewhat entertaining (see Monotonal educators - the most boring people on Terra Firma).

Think back to your school years from Grade school up to College/University and consider what classes were good and what classes were not so good. Did you do well with a teacher who brought it together and had the energy? Did you do well with the "doofus" who sat and quoted some stupid text book without showing relevance to the students or have any enthusiasm for the subject matter ?

We all have the answers, many just forget or don't want to look at them.

Sorry for the ramble but hopefully it will enlighten the "Hallowed Halls of the monotonously monotoned". ;)
