6 hours of shopping – it must be the holidays

that’s right, 359 minutes of shopping is what you have done in the Ener Hax freebies on Kitely since it opened on november 11th. one minute shy of six hours! dang! =)

there are not many things in the store but i hope some are useful

for many people reading this blog, it’s the first time you’ve been in a world i made. you’ve been able to judge me by what i write here, the freebies online, and Sim-on-a-Stick but most of you did’nt know me when i had the SL estate and only a few of you have been to Enclave Harbour. it may seem funny, but i get nervous putting things out there – many of you are far more talented and build incredible things

i do like my store, it’s not complex but it was fun to make something on that scale – literally!

i would have never made anything like that inSL but with Kitely, it is so inexpensive to experiment and do something like that. with our $35 Gold plan for Enclave Harbour, we have four extra sims, so the store would have just been an unused sim otherwise

for the store, i have it set so that it is free for you to visit – it uses our Kitely credits and your 6 hours have cost a whopping $1.79! that’s if you figure KCs at their most expensive which is 1000 for $5. that’s pretty affordable (especially since it’s using KCs that Ilan and Oren gave me last year) *thanks Ilan and Oren!*  =)

because Kitely is so affordable and we have those “extra” sims, i decided to also build Hax Nuit. well, i’m making it because i’ve been wanting to do it for 5 years and now that i have a way to cheaply share it, i was prompted to finally get off my butt (lol, i guess when it comes to OpenSim and making things, you actually have to get on your butt!)  =p

fingers crossed that Hax Nuit goes live this sunday, i’ve been building it on SoaS for convenience and access. i hope some people find it an entertaining place to explore and collect “quest” items (and even role play). as an only child, i’m used to imaginary playing and Hax Nuit seems like fun to me

Hax Nuit will be free for a while (months), but would people pay to explore it in Kitely?

i know that people do pay to access some worlds because Ilan has told me so. Kitely’s model is diff than SL and, in my opinion, it’s a better model because i think it is a fair thing to pay-as-you-play. for $35 a month you have unlimited minutes AND 20 sims! heck, for $20 a month you get 120 hours and 10 sims – 120 hours is a lot of in-world time!

sorry if this sounds like a Kitely ad, but i like their service model and what they do for OpenSim and what they do for their offering (Ilan said in a comment yesterday that they are rolling out more improvements soon)

so . . . getting back on topic . . . creating worlds where visitors pay their own way is a different approach but at inexpensive rates of  0.3 to 0.5 cents per minute, this seems very fair (just like cell phones)

what’s your perspective on that approach?

  1. The shop is a really top design, everything packaged nicely and the weird scale – feels like being a child again in a really good toyshop. It does make a difference, seeing the 3D object rather than a 2D website image.

  2. thank you keith =) i appreciate that quite a bit

the scale is fun and does mess with you. i like that you felt like a kid, that’s an awesome feeling and one rich with creativity

very good point on 3D vs 2D, i honestly had not thought of that!

  3. Thank you Ener :-)

Most of Kitely’s active users upgrade to some sort of premium plan or buy Kitely Credits (KC) so paying for one’s own minutes inworld is quite common on Kitely. There are a few dozen worlds on Kitely that subsidize the visitors time so they become free to visit but most world managers configure their worlds to have each person pay his or her own way.

In addition to such worlds, there are a handful of worlds that the world managers have set up to charge visitors extra so that the world managers themselves get paid when those worlds are visited. Such premium worlds are rare and don’t get as many visitors but there are such worlds that do see traffic. Charging people KC to access your worlds requires you to offer something people are willing to pay for. If you have an attractive offering that is priced reasonably and advertized appropriately then you can earn KC from visitors to your worlds.
