5 hours of visitors to Hax Nuit in its first week

well, it’s 99% done and thank you to the 20 people who have checked it out so far (over 5 combined hours) and given me some feedback =)

Hax Nuit has been live on Kitely for a week now and apart from blabbing here, it’s also been mentioned in Google+ with pics by Gaga (thanks) =)

it takes a certain kind of person to like this kind of thing – solving mazes and basically walking around an entire sim both above and below ground. it’s been fun to build and fulfills a long time daydream and thanks to how Kitely’s service plans work, it’s basically been free for me to do. i would never have been able to do this on our dedicated server. Kitely’s affordability AND very strong performance are hard to beat

on our own server, building this would have used as many resources as our two plus year Enclave Harbour project. since Kitely treats each world (whether one region or 16) as its own instance, it’s like having a server for each thing (one for Enclave Harbour, one for the freebie store, and now one for Hax Nuit). but that’s not really doing justice to what Ilan and Oren have put together – it’s like having three servers that can do 100,000 prims and 100 concurrent users each!

that’s just nuts

and something that still has not sunk in, although seeing how well the over 36,000 prims perform for Hax Nuit is kind of getting me there (i’m surprised at how stuck i still am in the SL paradigm of $295 for 15k prims! for $35 we get 20 regions to use any way we want – it could be 20 individual regions with 100K prims each! i guess even my thinking is stubborn and slow to embrace new things!) =p

tsuba-4leaf_017editback to Hax Nuit, as i think of new treasure items, i’ll add them in and update the list on the tablet in the helicopter (building 5). i’ll probably make a dedicated web page with the back story (as written the other day) and the latest maps (underground and mazes) – that way only one link needs to be accessed, if so desired

i guess i could move on from Imprudence 1.3.2 (talking about me being slow to adapt) and actually place that resource page in Hax Nuit (can you buy an item that has MoaP on it and walk around with it? like maybe as a forearm mounted LCD screen that displays a web page? hmm, that might be hard to look at on your avatar’s wiggling arm and click buttons eh?)

the windows with a little glow are apartments that can be entered

buildings are numbered all around to help you stay oriented

  1. I just logged in there and trundled around a bit, will need to investigate more in a bit when I Have more time but it’s Enerific !

I ran into some viewer issues to Kitely which I posted into their forums, maybe there is a simple answer … but it is a viewer issue so….

Keep up the Enerific Effort as the results are only getting better & better ! Definitely 5 Poutines !

  2. Hey Ener

You are doing an aMAZing job there! I must get back in soon to do the quest. Been a bit busy honey but I will get to it.

*waves to Ener and WS over there*

  3. thank you WhiteStar! as a distraction and a much needed change of pace, i have enjoyed this and found it satisfying to make

i would not hang my hat on it though as an example of my best work, but am proud of the modular aspect of it and that efficiency

i could easily spend another 60 hours adding textures and randomising things more (many of the halls in the buildings have identical clutter, plus i’d like to add some discarded furniture)

i’ll chip away at it over the next few months as a hobby – thanks for being a BIG part of this inspiration! =)

hmm, i need to make some WhiteStar-inspired treasure item and make it the penultimate goal! =D

  4. Love the look of the maze, Ener. That’s just what I imagine Hong Kong is like :)

  5. thank you gaga, you must have answered while i was slooow typing =)

well i dunno about that Justin! the real Kowloon Walled City was only on 6.5 acres and housed 33,000 people. Hax nuit is on 12-13 acres (not counting water) and only has 852 apartments – if each apartment averaged 4 people, that’s only 3400 or so

thus, around 10 times more people were in a space that was half the size! dang, eh?

pop density of 5100 people per acre vs. mine of 261!

either way, that’s serious concurrency! =)

  6. As I was wandering around in there, I noticed many little “bits” that could be scripted into something… shall we say… tricksey ! (think of Gollum’s voice in Lord of the Rings saying ‘Tricksey’) LOL.

Maybe a crazy scripter will get loose in there and leave some goodies for an Ener to tinker with… Hmmmmm

Geez… I’m standing on Hax Nuit now… been for an hour or so…. Actually testing Viewer Latency to Kitely… Strikes me that some of these sewer covers could be phantom and drop an un-suspecting avie into the “below ground” world…

PS: Ilan, Myself & Ohn are now plugging around on your region… wink wink nudge nudge…

  7. OOOOOO SO nice!!! I’d love to be able to build something like this as the “headquarters” for Fyorp. I don’t have the talent really … booo me :-(

Kitley isn’t on the HG yet, is it? ANother reason to whimper in sadness :-(

OK I seriously need to buckle down and rebuild an island of some kind. Maybe find the last OAR of Hyde Park and use it for the HQ> Plenty of housing to be had LOL

  8. i am fully open to quality scripting and you guys are the tops of the top so fire away. autoreturn is one minute, BUT what about if we duplicated the world and made it open to just your three?

Ilan has my permission to do that and that way you can turn off autoreturn if you want to do this

lol Crystal, i have seen some of your work and it is very nice! my only trick here was to make the apartments into modules so that it only took about 15 minutes to lay out the entire city. the prep work was time consuming but far more efficient (the “mise en place” french kitchen philosophy)

  9. i made a copy for you scripting big cheeses if you want to experiment but someone will need to make a group, i can’t get in-world from work (firewalls)

  10. Hi Crystal,

Kitely isn’t on the hypergrid yet but there is no reason why you can’t already use it to create your world. You can always export an OAR file of your world and take it somewhere else…

  11. Crystal i go back and forth between Kitely and SoaS constantly and it works out very well for me

you can even do it for free to start with one region and two hours a month but their other plans are reasonable with $5 for 2 regions and 30 hours a month or $20 for 10 regions and 120 hours a month!

so at $20 you could have a 3×3 9 region world and one other region for whatever

    120 hours is a lot!

  12. …or you can go for the $35/month plan and get 20 regions and unlimited time… :-)

  13. I spent some time in Hax Nuit and love it! LOL, [blush]i am terrible at puzzles and mazes and short attention span to boot[/blush] so I just roamed around marveling at how you put it all together. What fun if some scripty thingys jumped out and got me by surprise!

I like the $35 plan so i don’t have to think about time and 20 regions means you can try out a 4 region, a 9 region, and some 1 region worlds. you can have it ALL, muuhahahahah

  14. “$35/month plan and get 20 regions ”

now, now, i am a thrifty and budget conscious VW advocate. with Kitely, the nice thing is that you can change your billing plan anytime you like and for educators, particularly, starting with a lower priced plan is easier

120 hours is nearly 30 hours per week and 10 regions is a lot if you want to make quality builds

plus – Kitely lets you upload OARs in a matter of minutes so that the educator can have dozens of OARs and only load the ones they need to use (saw that on some guy’s very informative video this summer) =p

i agree, $25 is so affordable, especially compared to SL

even one single Kitely region is capable of so much more than an SL sim, especially for educators =)

  15. oh, and if you are so inclined Ilan, you can allow WhiteStar and Ohn access to the duplicated Hax Nuit if you like. having their scripting skills incorporated into a region could draw nice traffic and exemplify what can be done with Kitely =)

  16. thanks ohn for the nice comments (and the KCs). if you’d like to script some things, i have duplicated the build and need to make a group =)

  17. cool! can i join? I have some vague ideas about a couple npc characters. what do you think?

  18. And you thought you were finished!

Battleship Island may inspire if you haven’t referenced it already, it sooo looks like your concept and build.
the Future ruin pods look awesome also.

  19. wow, awesome link Moongold!!!

that would be amazing to build and try to get that level of decay!

that is a fascinating place and i am going to do some more research on it!

  21. Dimit Ener!!!! I want email notification so I know when people reply here LOL.

I avoid Kitley because why would I spend anything when I don’t have to … what is it they used to say “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?” In this house we have the 20 grid rectangle for the one time cost of a new router plus the monthly cost of the internet connection. 120 hours is ……. 5 calendar days … hmmmm … I live with some of the worlds most dedicated insomniacs .. who just might be willing to pay for an “unlimited plan” … emphasis on “might”.

Not always easy to look at an expensive cow (even if its a cheap cow in comparison to others in the herd) when you can get milk AND beef for free …….
