3 weeks and 30,000 prims later

three weeks ago today i started the Hax Nuit project as something fun to build, as a break from Enclave Harbour’s building, and as fulfillment of something i have wanted to do for five years =)

for me it’s a perfect project for a single sim – a modular approach kept it from being overwhelming and allowed me to spend a little time in the evenings on the laptop working on it and a few decent weekend days. the entire thing was actually built on Sim-on-a-Stick running from a Corsair Survivor 32 gig usb stick

there is a little work left in making sidewalks and the transition from terrain to asphalt. i also need to add a few obstacles in the buildings. i’d like to have 30 to 40 “quest” items but have only come up with a few. i’m trying to stay away from lots of weapons because i’d like kids to be able to do this (they get plenty of gore with video games)

currently there are just over 30,000 prims, so this isn’t something you could do in Second Life and spreading it over more than one sim would change the initial concept of being similar to Kowloon Walled City. a sim is 16 acres but Kowloon was only 6.5 acres and housed 33,000 people!

it will live in Kitely as 黑客不夜城 – Hackers Sleepless City and be open to anyone to use and undergo gradual enhancements. it’s simply a backdrop for your imagination and more like a text-based adventure in collecting items (be a gunter – Ready Player One!)

starting point – “you have arrived by hovercraft without being noticed by the mainland authorities – find the item list – it may still be aboard the crashed helicopter” – i should make this the initial landing point

the list of “quest” items might be found in the wreckage of the downed helicopter – the looters were arrested by local authorities when they were spotted on radar

the sim will be set to allow damage, have a fixed night, and having flying turned off

  4. excellent on making that reference Shamus! the book is cool and it would be awesome to develop a big (16 region) scripted world with that as an inspiration =)
