i think i’m happy about facebook disabling my avatar account, i was meh about it up until now, but i’m definitely happy!
i read an interview on SmartPlanet written by Christie Nicholson titled Q&A: The scary details of what Facebook knows about you. in her article she interviews author Lori B. Andrews (her book on this)
the article is well worth reading and here are some highlights from it:
- Europeans can ask what info facebook has on them – an Austrian asked and Facebook sent him over sixteen hundred PDFs
- Americans don’t have a right to know what facebook has on them
- facebook makes 85 percent from private information and Google makes 10 times that much from Gmail and searches
- in 2010, people on a chat board thinking of committing suicide with “x” chemical had ads pop up with a 1-800 number for that chemical
- talking about divorce on facebook could get you denied a credit card because people getting divorced tend not to pay them off
- if you search about an illness for a friend or relative, it’s assumed the information is for you – you might be denied life insurance later because it’s assumed that you’re sick
- you’re not supposed to be asked if you’re intending to get pregnant in a job interview (US Federal Pregnancy Discrimination Act) but an employer can look on your facebook page to see if you are talking about it
- 75% of US employers require their human resources officers to look at the online presence of job applicants
- there’s a patent that lets your smart phone identify a stranger by facial recognition and let you know if they have a blog or a dating site profile
i think i’m happy being an avatar hermit living under a prim . . . =D

There’s been 13 suits filed against Zuckerman since their IPO through yesterday based on he covered up facts that would effect the value of the stock.
Another 4 things not listed about FaceBook is it provides information for scammers, a news broadcast about employers demanding the password of employees mentioned that FaceBook was suing them for this, a FaceBook page is archived for posterity (you can’t delete it). And people should know better than divulging too much info about themselves. If they gave their location when they first signed up and months later mentionining they’re on vacation, they might as well put a sign on their front door asking to be robbed. Same goes for marital status. If they’re divorced, 50 cents will get you a copy of the page of their divorce decree with their birthdate, driver’s license number, social security number, and place of birth. To put in the word of Mr. Rodgers, “boys and girls can you say identity theft”
