125,000 prims on one region?

okay, i know i can be manic and i can get obsessed, but like Kenny Rogers said “you got to know when to fold ‘em”

so is 125,000 prims on a one region sim-on-a-stick enough?

the prims were all there, but they were getting flaky – in the second image you can see “holes” of missing prims (lower left corner) but when Simona would fly there, they would start to appear – maybe only so many can be made visible?

like the other tries of 50,000 ans 100,000, these are all normal cubes, i metre in zize and left as default (not phantom). i set graphics to low, no antialias, but had a draw distance of 512. Simona was able to fly and move just fine with a frame rate of 10-30 fps

this was on an 8 core 64-bit machine with 8 gigs of RAM. CPU stayed at 40% or below and RAM went to about 5.5 gig of usage but it still took a long time to duplicate these. i started with the 50k oar download from the other day and would shift-select 25,000 prims at a time. the selecting took about 15 minutes per set and the rezzing took another 15. so this took about an 45 minutes to do

  1. When the holes happen and then they start to appear when you get closer, that’s generally your viewer rendering that’s the culprit. You’ve probably finally gotten to your rendering limits. This is very cool to see, though :)

  2. I am so tempted to see how far this can be pushed using blank spheres on High shiny.

  3. I am just a little curious, what do you want to test with that quantity of prims ?.

  6. Ener, that is now classed as artwork. Whenever you hear about an artfest happening somewhere in opensim, just tell ‘em you have some thing to rezz and then KAPOW!!!!

  7. thanks ELQ! that makes sense – i’d fly near them and they start to rezz pretty quickly and i was flying around for 10 minutes trying to get them all to laod but there would always be holes opening up elsewhere (wormholes? what kind of anomaly can this be? oh, just the viewer, bah . . .) =D

dang blank full shiny spheres would be a lot more of a CPU load! go for it! take lots of pics! =)

lol xpontaneus, i think this only tests how kooky i can get! but the next time anyone says anything bad about OpenSim and that SL is better, i can honestly tell them that i can have 125,000 prims for free and that they suck! (i’m not mean like that outwardly, but that what i’m secretly thinking!) =p

yah, Sarge and i are like Hillary and Norgay, except i’m Norgay and my back is killing me or i’m just gay!

not sure about amazing, but certainly obssessing and wasting time! =) but it is kind of geeky cool

lol, hmm, i wonder if i could export it as an XML file? i was able to select 25,000 at a time (but man, that was sooo slow)

  8. I gots no patience.

at 4,000 waiting for the linking to resolve is a pain and decided to take it step by step. load up, rez a batch, shutdown. repeat.

    That should do it.

PS: got ambitions … prim allowance is set to 1,000,000 :-D
